Master of the Old Cedarians Lodge 2017-18

Welcome to the home page of the Old Cedarians Lodge No 8078 on the Register of the United Grand Lodge of England. We hold formal Lodge meetings four times a year on the second Saturday in March (Installation meeting), May, September and December at the Gables Hall on Wing Road in Leighton Buzzard.

W Bro Paul Hillyard, WM Old Cedarians Lodge No 8078

On Saturday  11 March 2017, W.Bro. Paul Hillyard was installed as the 52nd Master of the Old Cedarians Lodge. W.Bro. Paul is an outstanding member of the Lodge and was previously Lodge Master 23 years ago and now one of only  three Lodge members to have occupied this office on two occasions.  Paul is also an Old Boy of the Cedars School having been Head Boy  1977-78. We very much look forward to the next year under his leadership and guidance with confidence that the Lodges management is in good hands.

On Sunday 30th April 2017 our Provincial Grand Master Right Worshipful Brother Anthony Henderson, accompanied by Worshipful Brother Wally Randall our Lodge Tyler and Bro Iain Thompson of Lovells Bury Lodge. No. 4018, presented the East Anglian Air Ambulance Service, with a cheque for £4,000. The £4,000 was part of a recent donation by Freemasons of £192K to the 22 Air Ambulance and Rescue Services in England and Wales. At the Lodge Meeting on Saturday 9 September the members voted to make donations of £500 each to the Leighton Buzzard Branch of the Multiple Sclerosis Society, Prostate Cancer and also the Marie Curie Charity.  These donations were made following W.Bro. Ian Summerfield’s year as Master. In thanking the Brethren for their support during his year W.Bro. Ian explained that his wife suffered from MS, that one of our Past Masters W.Bro. Dave Miller, had died as a result of Prostate Cancer, and his widow Enid, was heavily involved with Marie Curie.

The Lodge secretary also reported that the Old Cedarians Lodge had contributed £100 towards the Provincial Grand Lodge donation to the Grand Lodge of East Lancashire for disbursement to those affected by the bombing of the Manchester Arena.

At our September meeting W Bro (Arthur) George Lawson was presented with a certificate to mark his 50 years as a Freemason. The Deputy Provincial Grand Master made mention of George’s earlier life and career, including his three commendations received while serving with the Bedfordshire Constabulary. W Bro George recounted tales from his experiences, and thanked the brethren, and the DPGM.

We were honoured with the presence of our Provincial Grand Master, Right Worshipful Brother Anthony Henderson, at our meeting on Saturday 9th December 2018. The meeting was marked by three significant events an Initiation, the presentation of a 50 Year Service Certificate and the election of our Master for 2018 -19.

The WM WBro Paul Hillyard invited W Bro Nigel Dyke to take the Masters Chair to carry out the Intiataion of his son. In what was a very well conducted ceremony Bro Joe Dyke was welcomed into Freemasonry and the Old Cedarians Lodge in particular.

RW Bro Anthony Henderson Provincial Grand Master presents a 50 year Certificate to WBro Roy Underwood

The PGM RW Bro Anthony Henderson, presented W. Bro Roy Underwood with a Certificate to mark his 50 years in Freemasonry.  W.Bro Underwood was initiated into the Old Cedarians in November 1976, served as Master of the Lodge in 1980 and 2002 and has held all of the principal Lodge offices throughout his long and distinguished masonic career, currently serving as Lodge Chaplin. After the formal presentation by the PGM, Bro Underwood amused the Lodge with a few well chosen reminisces from the last 50years of the Lodge after which the members saluted him with great acclaim.

WBro Mike Knight Master Elect 2018-19

W.Bro Mike Knight, our Senior Warden was elected to be the Lodges’ fifty third Master. Bro. Mike was initiated in 1983 into St Barbara Lodge No 4930, was installed as WM of Claydon Lodge No 9178 in 1994 and received Provincial Rank in Buckinghamshire in 2000 being promoted to PPrJGD in 2005. He joined the Old Cedarians Lodge in 2003 and has served the Lodge as Treasurer with great success from 2011 to 2016.  Bro. Mike took the Junior Wardens Chair in 2016 - 17 following on to the Senior Wardens Chair in 2017-18 and he will be installed into the Masters chair at the meeting in March 2018.
